This project focuses on several outstanding questions in statistical field theory. The guidelines are represented by exact non-perturbative methods of quantum field theory, based on developments in conformal theories, exactly solvable lattice models, and integrable quantum systems. A key feature of all these approaches is their ability to illuminate and account for strong coupling phenomena in quantum systems with infinite degrees of freedom. Applications of quantum field theory beyond the field of particle physics constitute an extremely rich research area today, dealing with quantum devices, cold atom gases, quantum spin chains, topological phases of matter, and out-of-equilibrium quantum systems.
