The cover of the September 2025 issue of Physical Review Letters, one of the most prestigious international scientific journals, is devoted to the particle physics experiment “Muon g-2”. The “Muon g-2” collaboration has recently released the final result of its determination of an important magnetic property of the muon, the “heavy brother” of the electron.
The theoretical interpretation of this benchmark result severely tests the predictive power of the Standard Model, the most precise theory on the sub-atomic world ever devised.
The “Muon g-2” collaboration includes a strong contribution by Italian physicists from the Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare, with among them several faculty members of the Universities of Udine and Trieste.
