In programma venerdì 5 giugno il seminario dal titolo "The Mu2e Experiment: Searching for Charged Lepton Flavor Violation at Fermilab". Ospite Ryan Hensley (UC Davis).
Sommario: The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab will search for the coherent, neutrinoless conversion of a negative muon into an electron in the field of an aluminum nucleus. Observation of this charged lepton flavor violating process would be an unambiguous sign of physics beyond the Standard Model. Mu2e aims to improve previous experimental sensitivity by four orders of magnitude using an intense pulsed proton beam, a system of superconducting solenoids to produce and transport muons, and precision detector systems to identify the monoenergetic conversion electron. This talk will give an overview of the physics motivation, experimental design, and main detector systems of Mu2e, with a final focus on the upstream extinction monitor and its role in measuring out-of-time beam particles between proton pulses.
