Summary: XENONnT is the current experiment of the XENON project at the INFN Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso, searching for dark matter and other rare processes with an ultra-low-background liquid xenon Time Projection Chamber. In this seminar, I will present the status and performance of the experiment after the recent upgrade, with particular emphasis on the latest results on low-energy solar neutrinos, which further demonstrate the potential of large liquid xenon detectors as observatories for both dark matter and neutrino physics. I will also discuss recent developments of the gadolinium-loaded neutron veto, one of the major contributions of the INFN groups to the experiment, and their impact on the experiment's sensitivity.
Looking beyond XENONnT, I will introduce XLZD, the next-generation liquid xenon observatory emerging from the convergence of the XENON and LZ communities. With a target mass at the multi-ten-tonne scale, XLZD aims to explore WIMP dark matter down to the neutrino background while enabling a broad program of neutrino and rare-event physics. I will discuss its scientific goals, current design activities, and prospects for realization, including its potential hosting at LNGS.
Speaker: Marco Selvi (INFN Bologna)
