Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) are sudden and unpredictable bursts of hard-X / soft-gamma radiation lasting from hundreds of ms to hundreds of s and coming from random directions in the sky at a rate of 300 events/year (as measured by a typical all-sky monitor in low Earth orbit). This phenomena has puzzled astrophysicists since their discovery in the late '60s and their study and comprehension is one of the hottest field of modern astronomy. I briefly review the basic observations of GRBs and the standard model for their progenitors and physics, with particurlar emphasis on the tremendous progress occurred in the last 10 years. Then, I will focus on some hot topics of this field, like recent observations by the Swift satellite, and their interpretation, the nature of peculiar GRBs and their relevance for the understanding of the GRB-Supernovae connection, spectrum-energy correlations and their importance for the understanding of GRB physics and the possible use of these sources for the estimate of cosmological parameters.
